Annaberg is synonymous with Riesling

Contrary to every trend, it is very important to me to show the wonderful origin of the wines from St. Annaberg on the labels.
The estate, the vineyards that stretch down into the valley, the forest with its flora and fauna, St. Anne or the devil enthroned on his mountain.

EVERYTHING IS SIGNIFICANT AND SO ARE THE WINES

When producing our Rieslings, we are very fortunate to be able to work with an incredibly diverse portfolio of soils.
The wines are characterized by sandy weathered rock, red sandstone and even slate soils and radiate the events they have experienced over the year with full power and elegance.

From salty and cool to flowery and fruity or fermented in Palatinate oak.

Monopollage Burrweiler Sankt Annaberg

Our solely owned vineyard stretches along vineyard terraces on sandy soils below St. Anna's Chapel. Independent of neighboring influences, we cultivate our vineyards on the edge of the "Palatinate Forest" nature reserve organically.
Clear, mineral structures characterize these Rieslings, which benefit from the protection of the forest in the background and the winds of the Rhine plain.

TERRACE LOCATION

Directly from the terraced slopes of the monopollage, it forms the start of the Riesling world of St. Annaberg.

Terraced vineyards form the Burrweiler St. Annaberg monopollage.

355NN feinherb

The 355NN is the reason why the vineyard is the highest in the Palatinate. At 355 meters above sea level, it towers above all other vineyards in the Rhine plain.

Its character perfectly reflects the interplay between the ripeness of the fruit (sweetness) and the coolness of the site (acidity).

DRECK & SPECK

The "tough guy" among the Rieslings, which is packed directly into a new tonneaux with dirt & bacon from the vineyard.

Full power, full commitment, full mess, and very good!

It handles wood very well and captures it so that it is not too loud. It is so multi-layered that it constantly changes in the glass the more air and temperature it gets - enormously exciting!

EDITION JOHANNISKREUZ

RIESLING LAGEN CUVÉE

A Riesling cuvée from all of the estate's vineyards, fermented and matured in 500-liter Palatinate tonneaux barrels. The oak comes from the Johanniskreuz vineyard in the Palatinate Forest and is processed in a tonneau factory in Bordeaux.

Delicate caramel notes and dried stone fruit are evident in the variety of aromas, without masking the typical Riesling characteristics.

Also an impressive accompaniment to dark meat.

The ham symbolizes Sebastian, my husband and master butcher with his own butcher's shop. The wild boar stands for the hunting grounds directly around the winery and my passion for cooking.

ST. ANNABERG PROMPTUS

Launched as an experiment during the 2014 harvest, our "Promptus" (Latin for spontaneous) has wormed its way into the hearts of wine connoisseurs.

After gentle pressing, the last hand-picked grapes are placed in a 500-liter wooden barrel and then (more or less) left to their fate. The wild yeasts begin to ferment the must, always under sensory control of course, and only stop when it gets too cold for them in the cellar.

The residual sugar content in the wine is always around 30 g/l, making our Promptus the perfect accompaniment to cheese and dessert, but also an exciting artist for an aperitif with an amuse-bouche.

Ilbesheim Kalmit

Great location

The Große Gewächs vineyard from my mother's estate is located on a limestone hill that is famous for its Pinot Blanc. Today, it is also home to a few rows of Riesling, which produce a total annual yield of around 525 liters. This quantity corresponds to the small stainless steel tank in which it is fermented.

The alkaline soils buffer the strong acidity of the Riesling and thus present a floral, playful character of white flowers.

BURRWEILER SCHÄWER

GREAT LOCATION

The only slate site in the Palatinate and at the same time a Große Gewächs site that produces Rieslings with enormous potential and longevity.

Protected by the Palatinate Forest, this location stretches around the top of the Sankt Annaberg and benefits from the best sunshine all day long.

The Rieslings produced here are enormously rich in extract and cool, mineral Rieslings with a dense body.

Old vines

Under permanent drought stress, a Riesling grows here under the most difficult conditions.
Vines up to 65 years old try to access available water reserves at a depth of 30 meters, which are only stored for a short time in the red sandstone. The nutrients are therefore concentrated on 2-3 grapes per vine instead of 7-8.

Intensely fruity Rieslings are the result.
